Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

I have a knee injury for which I am treated by a specialist in Japanese Osteopathy who, through osteopathy, massage and physio, keeps me mobile, strong, healthy and pain free for the first time in over a decade. We joke that she is obsessed with my toes, spending more time there than on my knees because, by releasing and stretching connected joints and muscles, my knee is supported to work as efficiently as possible. And now that my knees work, the long-term back, neck and shoulder tension I’ve struggled with is a thing of the distant past.

It took a long time to get used to her way of working, but now our strong rapport and genuine trust enables me to be confident that she knows best where to focus her time and energies, to my benefit.

As a Coach, my job is to build the same foundation of trust and rapport with a client. By doing so, I can support the work that they are intent on doing, and help to address the questions that are at the front of their minds, by addressing them in the context of their wider life experience, their belief systems, values and motivations, and past experiences. Working solely on ‘the task in hand’ might deliver short-term wins, but ‘zooming out’ and taking a holistic approach that coaches the whole person not just the pressing issue of the day, is likely to create the circumstances necessary for more fundamental, effective change.

Who knew that working on knees and minds would have so much in common?!
